Innovation Coming To Highways Everywhere
It took a very large runway – plus overflow and indoor areas – to demonstrate the newest and best advances coming to roads in the UK.
Over 1300 of the biggest brains of the highway sector met to show innovations adapted from around the world – helped in part by designated funding from Highways England to support and encourage more innovation from the industry to reduce incidents involving road users and road workers, improve the infrastructure, support sustainable operation, boost new and emerging technology and improve how data and information is captured and processed.
Traffex Seeing is Believing, the only event of its kind which allows high-speed crash demos and outdoor showcasing for live road repairs is a two-day event occurring every two years.
Visitors were able to see, amongst a huge range of new technologies, a lorry that gobbles up debris such as wheels, shredded tyres, bumpers, and damaged lights following crashes; an 83-foot lorry/barrier that protects road workers and motorists and reduces the severity of incidents in and around work zones; and “smart” wireless, sensory road studs that collect information which is used to detect risks, prevent accidents, optimize intersections, automate traffic control centres, and support connected & autonomous vehicles.
Adrian Tatum, Events Producer & Head of Content for Seeing is Believing, part of the Transport Network, said: “Once again Traffex Seeing is Believing was able to provide an exceptional platform for the highways sector to come together to see, debate and discuss the latest technology and thinking that is helping drive change on the road network. This year was an undoubted success with a rise in both visitor numbers and exhibitors and our unique indoor-outdoor concept enabled all attendees to improve their knowledge and insight across our CPD accredited conference, indoor exhibition and outdoor live and static demonstrations as well as our specially designed crash demonstrations.
“We were especially pleased to see we were able to support the sector to effectively deliver its message through ITV’s nationwide coverage of the event and articles in the forthcoming edition of Auto Express magazine as well as in our own publications SMART Highways and Highways magazine. We now look forward to our two next events, Traffex Road Expo Scotland and Traffex.”
