A smarter network

INSIDE–

ITS (UK) – the UK association for the promotion of intelligent transport systems – will lead a debate on the role of technology in helping to deliver the government’s programme of investment in roads at this year’s Highways SIB (Seeing is Believing).

ITS (UK) is a not-for-profit public/private sector association financed by members’ subscriptions, and provides a forum for all organisations concerned with ITS. The association works to bring the benefits that ITS can offer in terms of economic efficiency, transport safety and environmental benefits to the UK – and at the same time expand the ITS market.

Secretary general Jennie Martin said: “Highways SIB is a great opportunity for intelligent transport systems manufacturers and service providers to demonstrate their products in realistic conditions and highlights the excellent capabilities of the UK ITS industry.”

ITS (UK) has a membership of over 150 UK organisations which comprises government departments, local authorities, consultants, manufacturing and service companies, and academic and research institutions.

Highways Magazine editor Alec Peachey said: “ITS (UK) already has a close affiliation with our sister publication Smart Highways so I’m delighted that they’ve agreed to form part of the conference agenda at Highways SIB and have a presence at the show. Technology is playing an increasingly important role in the highways sector which is why we’ve incorporated a technology zone in the outdoor area. We already have some ITS (UK) members signed up as exhibitors and look forward to welcoming others.”

ITS is changing the way the transport industry solves the problems we’re all facing. The government’s Spring Budget set out a £150 million innovation strategy to harness new technology – including driverless car trials and wirelessly connected vehicles. While Roads Minister Andrew Jones said: “Innovation is absolutely critical to our £15 billion investment plan for roads.”

The highway industry is a fast-paced and ever-changing landscape, so what better place to keep on top of the latest innovation than in Highways SIB’s ‘Smarter network’ zone.

Keeping traffic safely on moving is everyone’s goal. And at this year’s SIB event live outdoor demonstrations are planned to help you select the very best solutions to suit your budget, in key areas such as:

• Next generation traffic light control systems
• SCOOT (Split Cycle Offset Optimisation Technique) traffic signals
• Mobile and solar powered colour mobile variable messaging signs
• CCTV and security solutions
• ANPR and automated traffic counting
• Real time classification and systems integration
• Automatic triggering of VMS
• Incident reporting
• Thermal imaging cameras and radar technology
• Security solutions
• Intelligent road studs and more

The ‘Smarter Network’ zone is sponsored by Smart Highways, Highways Magazine’s sister publication – the UK’s only dedicated ITS and Advanced Traffic Management magazine.

Watch HERE: Details of all live demonstrations taking place in 2016 will be posted here in the summer.
